February 14th
Valentine’s Day celebrates love and passion on the 14th of February every year. The origins of the holiday can be traced to the Middle Ages, a time where sacraments and courtly love were widespread.
It was seen as an occasion to celebrate love between romantic partners and friends during the 14th century. Valentine’s Day was the day to send one another flowers, gifts and even cards.
Commercial cards were made available by the early nineteenth century. Additionally, postcards printed in bulk gained popularity. They were popular in shops as themed displays.
Valentine’s Day is a tradition that includes a chocolate or candy gift and the gift of a card and flowers. It is also possible to give them jewelry.
February 2 2012
Groundhog Day occurs annually on February 2. It’s also a popular holiday in Canada but it is American Thanksgiving.
The idea for this celebration came from an ancient belief that originated among Pennsylvanians from the Dutch. However, the practice of making predictions about weather conditions came to the United States with German immigration. Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog from Pennsylvania provides meteorological predictions throughout the winter.
The whole thing began when researchers discovered mice that were hibernating throughout the winter. The initial idea was to predict six weeks of the seasons by watching how animals reacted to the climate.
Groundhogs make up the Sciuridae family of small, hairy mammals. During the winter, its primary objective is to hibernate. Groundhog Day mornings are a perfect time to see the animals peering out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight that falls on the third Monday in February, is regarded as to be a national holiday. The holiday honors the previous American presidents. In the past, Presidents Day has served as a day of honor for both Lincoln and Washington.
Despite being an official holiday of the United States, not all states observe it. Certain states celebrate the birthdays of both presidents on the same day, while some states only recognize one. The Presidents’ Day holiday is now widely accepted as a way to recognize all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.
It has a long story. Washington’s Birthday used to be the name used for the day of celebration. It is now known as Presidents Day.
Washington’s birthday, also called Washington’s Day is a well-known not-official holiday. In the 1870s, however it became a federally recognized holiday. Congress approved the Uniform Monday holiday Act.
Storms of meteors
Each year, the Earth’s orbit revolves around sun. A torrent of small meteors are released into space. They appear in any part of the sky. Certain showers are more stunning than others. It is generally best to view the showers at night.
One of the largest and most magnificent meteor showers that occurs throughout the year is the Perseids. This is because Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle is responsible for. It is seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the highest rates of fireballs, it is also worthwhile to see from that region.
There are four major meteor showers each year. The Quadrantid, number 1, is well-known for its explosive but short peak. Another famous for its strange spikes is the Lyrid. The Geminid is also famous for its warm appearance.
Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia is among the most well-known holidays of ancient Rome. In February, in the middle there was a cleansing and fertility ceremony was celebrated. During this rite it was a time when priests offered sacrifices to animals on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. The blood of the animal was poured in the hearth. The fertility and protection of blood is believed to have been beneficial to the grain field.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres (the harvest goddess). Ludi Ceriales celebrations can be traced back to the year 202 BC.
Neptunalia as well as Saturnalia were among the other popular Roman celebrations. These celebrations were initially held to honor Mars, the godof war.
Roman workweeks took eight days. Each day consisted of two parts: morning and afternoon. The nundin was eight days long, and the 29 remaining days were the remainder.
