March Calendar Events – There are many enjoyable holidays scheduled for February and they can all be observed during the entire month. Some examples of these holidays are Valentine’s Day or Groundhog Day Presidents Day, Groundhog Day or meteor showers. There are many historical Roman celebrations that take place on various days.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day (February 14th) is a day to celebrate love and affection. It is celebrated each year. The origins of the holiday can be traced back to the Middle Ages, a time when sacraments and courtly love were commonplace.
It was believed to be a day of celebration that honored love between romantic partners and close friends during the 14th century. It was common to give Valentine’s Day flowers, cards and gifts to each other.
The beginning of the nineteenth century saw the advent commercial cards. Popularity also grew for bulk-printed postcards. These cards were popularized in retail stores as displays of themed designs.
Valentine’s Day is an old custom. You can buy your loved one chocolates or a candy item, along with an arrangement of flowers or a card. You might even choose to present them with jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day is observed annually on February 2. It’s also a well-known holiday in Canada, but Thanksgiving is an American holiday.
This celebration was born of beliefs that were derived from Pennsylvanians as well as Dutch people. However, Americans gained the tradition of predicting weather forecasts through German immigrants. PunxsutawneyPhil, a Pennsylvania groundhog that makes forecasts for winter weather throughout the year.
The tradition originated from the discovery of scientists by discovering that a mouse hibernated during winter. The idea was to predict the next six weeks of winter by observing how animals reacted to the climate.
Groundhogs make up the Sciuridae group of tiny hairy mammals. They hibernate in winter. Groundhog Day mornings are a great time to spot the animals peering out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight (third Monday in February) is a holiday that is celebrated across the nation. It pays tribute to past American presidents. Presidents’ Day has traditionally been a day to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln.
Although it’s an annual holiday of the United States, some states do not observe it. While some states celebrate both presidents birthdays on the exact same day however, some states only recognize only one. The Presidents’ Day holiday is now widely recognized as a day to honor all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.
There’s a rich history of Presidents Day. Washington’s Birthday is the original name of this celebration.
Washington’s birthday, more commonly called Washington’s Day is a well-known not-official holiday. It was declared a federal holiday in late 1870s. Congress passed the Uniform Monday holiday Act.
Meteor showers
Every year, Earth rotates around its sun. Small meteors are released into the atmosphere. They appear virtually everywhere in the sky. Certain showers are more spectacular than others. Nighttime is often the best time for watching.
Perseids is among the most beautiful and impressive meteor showers of the year 2018. This is due to the comet 109P/Swift Tuttle. It will be seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the most intense fireballs, it is also worthwhile to observe from there.
There are four major meteor showers every year. One of the most famous meteor showers is called the Quadrantid. This one is famous for its small but very powerful peak. Another is the Lyrid, which is known for its unusual surges. The Geminid is known for its easygoing appearance.
Roman holidays that date back to antiquity
The Lupercalia was one of the most loved holidays in the past of Rome. In the middle of February, a fertility and cleansing ceremony was celebrated. Priests offered sacrifices of animals near the altar of the Lapis Negiger during this ritual. The hearth was cleaned of the blood of the animal. The fields of grain were believed to be protected and fertility.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was dedicated to Ceres. Ludi Ceriales celebrations can be traced back to 202 BC.
Neptunalia, Saturnalia, Vestalia were just a few of the well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were initially held in honor of Mars, the godof war.
The Roman workweek was 8 days long. There were two periods of each day: the morning and afternoon. A nundin was a collection consisting of eight days. The remaining 29 days made up the remainder of the calendar year.
