Valentine’s Day is a day dedicated to love and passion which is celebrated every the 14th of February every year. The holiday’s beginnings can be traced to the Middle Ages, a time where sacraments and courtly love were commonplace.
It was believed to be the celebration of love between romantically involved people from the fourteenth century. In the 14th century, on Valentine’s Day, it was customary to send flowers, cards and other gifts to one another.
In the early years of the nineteenth century commercial cards were readily accessible. The popularity of postcards printed in bulk was also increasing. These cards were a hit in retail stores as themed displays.
Valentine’s Day traditions include buying your beloved a chocolate or chocolate gift along with a flower or card. You might also consider giving them jewelry.

Groundhog Day falls on February 2. Groundhog Day is observed annually in Canada on February 2.
The celebration originated from a belief system that was popular in the minds of Pennsylvanians who spoke Dutch. The custom of forecasting the weather was brought to the United States by German immigrants. Punxsutawney Phil is a Pennsylvania groundhog who gives forecasts for the remainder of winter.
The idea for this custom originated from the discovery of scientists by discovering that mouse hibernates in winter. The plan was to forecast the next six weeks of the season by observing how animals responded to weather.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae tribe of small hairy mammals. In the winter months, their principal purpose is to hibernate. Groundhog Day is the most regular day they can be seen looking out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
The third Monday of February is Presidents’ Daylight. It is considered a national holiday. It is an honor to all previous American presidents. It is a day that honors the two presidents, Lincoln, Washington, and has been Presidents Day since the beginning of its existence.
Although it’s a federal holiday , not all states observe it. Some states celebrate both presidents simultaneously, whereas some only honor one president. Presidents’ Day, however, is now generally celebrated as a time to recognize every one of the U.S. presidents, especially Lincoln.
The history of the Presidents’ Day holiday is a bit tangled. Washington’s Birthday was the name used for the holiday. Today, it’s known as Presidents Day.
Washington’s Birthday, commonly known as Washington’s Day, is an not a holiday recognized by the government but is widely known. In the latter half of 1870s it became a federal holiday. As a result, Congress adopted the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
Meteors and storms
Every year, the Earth is orbiting around the sun. This triggers a rush of tiny meteors which are released into space. They can appear everywhere. Some showers are more spectacular than others. Nighttime is often the best moment to view.
Perseids is one of most beautiful and impressive meteor showers in 2018. It is likely that the Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle is the cause. It is visible from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the most intense fireballs, it is also worthwhile to observe from there.
Four meteor showers of significance occur every year. The Quadrantid, number 1, is well-known for its potent but short peak. Another famous for its strange spikes is the Lyrid. The Geminid is also known for its attractive appearance.
Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia was a well-known celebration in the ancient city of Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility were held in the middle February. During the ceremony, priests offered sacrifices of animals to an altar close to the Lapis Niiger. The hearth was then cleaned of the blood of the animal. It was believed to be beneficial to the fertility of the grain fields.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres (the goddess of the harvest). Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first documented in the year 202 BC.
Other well-known Roman festivities include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. The celebrations were originally celebrated in honor of Mars, the godof war.
Roman workweeks were 8 days long. Each day consisted of two parts: morning or afternoon. The nundin was eight days long. The 29 remaining days were the rest of the days.
