The Lupercalia celebration was very well-known in the ancient city of Rome. A cleansing and fertility ceremony were held in the middle February. Priests offered animal sacrifices close to the altar of Lapis Negiger during the ceremony. The hearth was emptied with the blood of the animal. The grain fields were believed to benefit from its protection and fertility.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was held in honour of Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations date back to the year 202 BC.
Neptunalia was among the most popular Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally held in honor of Mars, the godof war.
Roman workweeks lasted eight days. Every day consisted of two parts: the morning, and afternoon. A nundin was a collection of 8 days. The remaining 29 days comprised the remainder of the year.
