February 14th

Valentine’s Day is a day dedicated to love and love which is celebrated every the 14th of February every year. The Middle Ages are the time when Valentine’s Day was first celebrated. It was a time when courtly love and the sacraments still were commonplace.

This celebration was born from a belief system that was popular in the minds of Pennsylvanians who spoke Dutch. German immigrants introduced the practice of forecasting weather to the United States. Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog native to Pennsylvania provides meteorological predictions throughout the winter.

The idea for this custom originated from an observation by scientists that mouse hibernates during winter. The goal was to forecast the weather patterns for the remaining six weeks, by observing how animals respond to it.

Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae category of hairy mammals. They hibernate during the winter months. Groundhog Day is a common day when they can be observed peering out of their burrows.

Christmas Day

Presidents Daylight (third Monday in February) is a national holiday. It celebrates the previous American presidents. It is a day that celebrates the two presidents, Lincoln, Washington, and is Presidents’ Day since its inception.

Although it is a federal holiday , not every state observes this holiday. Some states celebrate the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while other states only recognize only one. Presidents Day has become a day to honor the all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.

The origins of Presidents’ Day is complex. Washington’s Birthday was the first reason for the name for this holiday.

Washington’s birthday is well-known as an unofficial holidaythat is also known as Washington’s Day. In the late 1870s, it became a federal holiday. Congress passed the Uniform Monday holiday Act.

Meteor showers

Each year, Earth rotates around its sun. Small meteors are released into the atmosphere. They are visible in the sky and can appear all over the sky. Some showers are more impressive than others. Nighttime is often the best time for watching.

One of the biggest and most stunning meteor showers in the world is the Perseids. This is due to the comet 109P/Swift Tuttle. It will be visible from Northern Hemisphere. But, since the Southern Hemisphere is home to some of the most stunning fireballs, it is logical to look at the phenomenon from the Southern Hemisphere.

Every year, there are four significant meteor showers. The Quadrantid is the first due to its power but short maximum. The other is the Lyrid. It is famous for the odd surges it produces. The Geminid is also well-known for its friendly appearance.

Roman holidays in antiquity

The Lupercalia was a popular festival in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was held in mid February. During this rite it was a time when priests offered sacrifices to animals on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was stuffed with blood of the animal. It was believed that it would benefit the crop by increasing fertility and also protecting them.

Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to pay tribute to Ceres (the goddess of harvest). Ludi Ceriales celebrations can be traced back to 202 BC.

Neptunalia was one of the more well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally meant to honor Mars the god of war.

Roman workweeks were eight days long. There were two periods to each day: morning and the afternoon. Nundin was an eight-day collection, the rest of the year being comprised of 29 days.
