When scientists discovered that mice hibernated in winter, they laid the foundation for this custom. It was designed to predict the six weeks ahead by studying the way animals react to weather conditions.
Groundhogs are part of Sciuridae which is a small group of mammals with hairy fur. It is hibernates through winter. In the early morning hours of Groundhog Day, they are often seen looking out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight (third Monday of February) is a holiday that is celebrated across the nation. It pays tribute to past American presidents. The Presidents’ Day holiday was usually a day dedicated to Lincoln as well as Washington.
It’s a national holiday that is not observed by all states despite being one. Some states honor the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while some states only recognize one. Presidents’ Day, however, is now generally celebrated as a time to recognize the achievements of all U.S. presidents, especially Lincoln.

Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia was an ancient Roman holiday that was loved by many. A cleansing and fertility ceremony was observed in February. At this time the priests offered sacrifices of animals on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was then cleansed of the blood of the animal. The belief was that this would benefit the grains by ensuring their fertility and securing the plants from harm.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration, was celebrated in honor of Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented from 202 BC.
Neptunalia was among the most well-known Roman celebrations. The celebrations were originally intended to pay tribute to Mars the god of war.
