February 14th
Valentine’s Day celebrates love and passion every February 14. It dates back as far as the Middle Ages, when love was more common than sacramental and courtly.
It was celebrated the romance between romantic partners and lovers in the fourteenth century. It was commonplace to give Valentine’s Day flowers, cards and other gifts to one another.
In the early 19th century, commercial cards had been made. The popularity of these cards grew due to the increasing demand of postcards printed in large quantities. These cards were a hit in shops as displays with themes.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by giving your loved one the gift of chocolate or candy, as well as a card or flower. It is also possible to give them jewelry.
February 2 2012
Groundhog Day falls on February 2. It’s also a very popular holiday in Canada, but Thanksgiving is an American holiday celebrated in the United States.
A belief system among Pennsylvanians Dutch people contributed to the celebration. But Americans inherited the custom of predicting weather forecasts through German immigrants. PunxsutawneyPhil is a Pennsylvania groundhog who makes meteorological predictions throughout the winter.
The custom got its start after scientists discovered mice that hibernate in the winter. The aim was to predict the weather conditions for the six remaining weeks by studying how animals react to it.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae group of small hairy mammals. They hibernate during the winter months. Groundhog Day’s morning is when they can be seen peeking out of the burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight that falls on the third Monday of February, is considered to be a national holiday. It’s an honor to all past American presidents. It is a day which honors both Lincoln, Washington, and it has been Presidents’ Day since its inception.
Even though it is an official holiday, some states do not observe it. Some states honor the birthdays of both presidents on the same day, whereas other states only recognize only one. While Presidents’ Day is now common this holiday allows us to commemorate the names of all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.
Presidents Day has a complicated past. Washington’s Birthday was the original name of the celebration, which is now known as Presidents’ Day.
Washington’s birthday, also known by the title Washington’s Day was a well-known nonofficial holiday. However, in the 1870s, it became an official holiday recognized by the federal government. Congress passed the Uniform Monday Day Holiday Act.
Meteor showers
Each year, Earth moves around the sun. Every year, tiny meteors are released into space. They are visible in the sky and can appear everywhere. Some showers are more impressive then others. It is recommended to watch the showers in the evening.
Perseids is among the most spectacular and stunning meteor showers of the year 2018. It is probable that Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle is the cause. It will be seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the most intense fireballs, it is also worthwhile to look up from there.
Four major meteor showers take place each year. One of the most well-known meteor showers is the Quadrantid. This one is known for its short but very powerful peak. Another well-known for its odd surges is the Lyrid. The Geminid is known for its sexy appearance.
Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia was a Roman festival that was adored by many. The cleansing and fertility ceremony took place in the middle of February. In this ceremony, priests offered animal sacrifices on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was then emptied of the blood of the animal. The fertility and protection of blood is believed to be beneficial to the field of grain.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was held in honour of Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented from 202 BC.
Neptunalia was among the most well-known Roman festivities. These celebrations were originally meant to celebrate Mars the god of War.
Roman working weeks lasted for eight days. There were two periods to every day: morning and afternoon. Nundin was an eight-day collection, with the rest of the year being comprised of 29 days.
