Washington’s Birthday, commonly known as Washington’s Day, is an non-official holiday, but it is well-known. It became an official holiday of the United States in the late 1870s. Congress passed the Uniform Monday Day Holiday Act.

Every year, Earth moves around the sun. Each year, small meteors fall into space. They can appear everywhere. Some showers are more spectacular than others. Nighttime is the best moment to see them.

Each year there are four meteor showers that are significant. One of the most well-known meteor showers is the Quadrantid. This one is known for its brief but very powerful peak. One of the most notable for its distinctive surges is the Lyrid. The Geminid is also well-known for its pleasant appearance.

Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity

The Lupercalia festival was extremely loved in ancient Rome. A cleansing and fertility ceremony was held in mid February. Priests offered sacrifices of animals near the altar of Lapis Negiger during this ritual. The hearth was cleansed with the blood of the animal. It was believed that the hearth would offer fertile soil and protect the fields of grain.

Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to pay tribute to Ceres (the harvest goddess). Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first recorded in 202 BC.

Neptunalia was one of the other well-known Roman festivities. These were originally celebrated in honor of Mars the god of war.

Roman working weeks were eight days long. There were two portions of each day: the morning and the afternoon. Nundin was a collection that comprised of 8 days. The remaining 29 days made up the remainder of the calendar year.
