A few examples are Valentine’s Day or Groundhog Day Presidents’ Day, Groundhog Day or meteor showers. There are also a variety of historical Roman celebrations which take place at different times of the year.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day (February 14th) is a holiday to celebrate love and affection. It is observed every year. The holiday’s beginnings can be traced back to the Middle Ages, a time where sacraments and courtly love were all the rage.
It was a celebration of love between romantic friends and lovers during the 14th century. Valentine’s Day was the day to exchange flowers, gifts and even cards.
In the beginning of the nineteenth century commercial cards were readily available. The demand for postcards printed in bulk also grew. They were put up in stores as themed displays.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by giving your loved one the gift of chocolate or candy, and an arrangement or card. You might also consider giving them jewelry.

Groundhog Day occurs annually on February 2. Groundhog Day is celebrated every year in Canada on February 2.
A belief system among Pennsylvanians Dutch people contributed to the festival. German immigrants brought the tradition of weather forecasts to the United States. PunxsutawneyPhil, a Pennsylvania groundhog that makes forecasts for winter weather throughout the year.
Researchers discovered that mice went into hibernation in winter. The goal was to predict the next six weeks of the season based on observations of how the animals responded.
Groundhogs make up the Sciuridae tribe of small, hairy mammals. They hibernate during the winter months. Groundhog Day is the most frequent day that they are observed looking out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
The third Monday of February President’s Daylight is declared an American holiday. It is an honor to all previous American presidents. It has been a day to honor both Lincoln and Washington.
While it’s a federal holiday many states don’t observe it. Certain states honor both presidents, whereas others are only allowed to recognize only one. Although Presidents’ day is now standard this holiday allows us to commemorate the names of all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.
There is a complicated history behind Presidents Day. Washington’s Birthday is the original name for this holiday.
Washington’s Birthday, commonly known as Washington’s Day, is an non-official holiday, but it is well-known. It became an official holiday of the United States in the late 1870s. Congress passed the Uniform Monday Day Holiday Act.
Storms of Meteors
Every year, Earth moves around the sun. Each year, small meteors fall into space. They can appear everywhere. Some showers are more spectacular than others. Nighttime is the best moment to see them.
Perseids is one of most beautiful and impressive meteor showers in 2018. It is because of Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle. It is seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the most intense fireballs, it is also worthwhile to see from that region.
Each year there are four meteor showers that are significant. One of the most well-known meteor showers is the Quadrantid. This one is known for its brief but very powerful peak. One of the most notable for its distinctive surges is the Lyrid. The Geminid is also well-known for its pleasant appearance.
Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia festival was extremely loved in ancient Rome. A cleansing and fertility ceremony was held in mid February. Priests offered sacrifices of animals near the altar of Lapis Negiger during this ritual. The hearth was cleansed with the blood of the animal. It was believed that the hearth would offer fertile soil and protect the fields of grain.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to pay tribute to Ceres (the harvest goddess). Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first recorded in 202 BC.
Neptunalia was one of the other well-known Roman festivities. These were originally celebrated in honor of Mars the god of war.
Roman working weeks were eight days long. There were two portions of each day: the morning and the afternoon. Nundin was a collection that comprised of 8 days. The remaining 29 days made up the remainder of the calendar year.
