However, Presidents’ Day is now widely recognized as a day to honor the achievements of all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.

Presidents Day has a complicated history. Washington’s Birthday was the first title of the celebration.

Washington’s Birthday, commonly known as Washington’s Day, is an non-official holiday, but it is well-known. It became a federal holiday in late 1870s. In the aftermath, Congress passed Uniform Monday Holiday Law.

Storms of Meteors

Each year each year, the Earth revolves in the solar system. This triggers a rush of tiny meteors which are released into space. They can appear almost anywhere in the skies. Some showers can be more striking than others. The best time to see them is at night.

Roman holidays that date back to antiquity

The Lupercalia festival was extremely popular in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was performed in February. During this rite the priests offered sacrifices of animals on an altar beside the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was filled up with blood of the animal. The grain fields were believed to benefit from its protection and fertility.

Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres (the harvest goddess). Since 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations have been recorded.

Vestalia, Saturnalia, and Neptunalia were a few other popular Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally meant to celebrate Mars the god of War.

The Roman week was eight days long. There were two phases of each day: the morning part and the afternoon. A nundin consisted of 8 days. The rest of the year was made up by the remaining days.
