February 14th

Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog from Pennsylvania is a meteorological forecaster throughout the winter.
The idea for this custom was born out of an observation by scientists that mouse hibernates during winter. The goal was to predict the coming six weeks of the season based on observations of how animals responded.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae which is a tiny family of hairy mammals. In winter, their main function is to go into hibernation. On the morning of Groundhog Day, they are often seen looking out from their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents’ Daylight is regarded as an American holiday that falls on the third Monday of February. The holiday honors the previous American presidents. Presidents’ Day has traditionally been a time to pay tribute to both Washington and Lincoln.
While it is a federal holiday, many states do not observe it. Some states recognize both presidents, whereas others only recognize one president. The Presidents Day holiday is an opportunity to remember the all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.
It has had a complicated background. Washington’s Birthday is the original name of this celebration.
A well-known unofficial holiday was the birthday of President Washington, also known as Washington’s Day. But it became a recognized national holiday in the late 1870s. Congress adopted the Uniform Monday holiday Act.
Meteors hurling storms
Each year it is the time when the Earth passes through its circle around the sun which causes tiny meteors to be released into space. They are visible from anywhere in the sky. Some showers are more impressive then others. It is generally best to view the showers at night.
Perseids are among the most powerful and beautiful meteor shower of the year. This is due to the fact that Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle was the cause. Although it won’t be seen from the Northern Hemisphere due to the large number of fireballs that occur in the Southern Hemisphere, it is worthwhile to observe from that area.
Four meteor showers of significance occur every year. The Quadrantid, number one, is renowned for its brief but powerful maximum. The other is the Lyrid which is famous for its unusual surges. The Geminid is also famous for its friendly appearance.
Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia is among the most well-known holidays of the ancient city of Rome. The month of February was when a fertility cleansing ceremony was performed. Priests offered animal sacrifices close to the altar of Lapis Negiger in this ceremony. The blood of the animal was poured in the hearth. The protection and fertility of blood is believed to be beneficial to the field of grain.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to celebrate Ceres (the goddess of the harvest). Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented as far back as the year 202 BC.
Neptunalia and Saturnalia were among the other popular Roman celebrations. The celebrations were originally intended to celebrate Mars the god of war.
Roman workweeks lasted eight days. Each day was divided into two parts: the morning and the afternoon. A nundin was a collection of eight days, while the other 29 days comprised the remainder of the year.
