Groundhogs form part of the Sciuridae group of tiny hairy mammals. They are winter animals and their primary job is to stay in hibernation. Groundhog Day is a common day when they can be observed peering out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight, which falls on the third Monday of Februar, is considered an official holiday of the United States. The holiday honors the past American presidents. Presidents’ Day has historically served as a day to honor both Washington and Lincoln.
Although it’s an annual holiday of the United States, several states do not observe it. Certain states celebrate the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while others only honor one. Presidents Day has become an opportunity to remember the all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.
The history of Presidents’ Day is complex. The Washington’s Birthday was the original title of the day’s celebration. Today Presidents’ Day is the official name.
Washington’s birthday, often referred to by the title Washington’s Day was a well-known nonofficial holiday. In the 1870s however it became an official holiday recognized by the federal government. In response, Congress passed Uniform Monday Holiday Law.
Meteor showers
Each year, Earth moves around the sun. Every year, small meteors fall into space. They appear virtually everywhere in the skies. Some showers are more stunning then others. Nighttime is the best time of day to observe.
Perseids is one of most spectacular and stunning meteor showers in 2018. This is due to the fact that Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle caused it. It will be visible from Northern Hemisphere. But, considering that the Southern Hemisphere is home to some of the most impressive fireballs, it is logical to be able to observe the phenomenon from that region.
Every year, there are four important meteor showers. The Quadrantid 1 is well-known for its explosive but short peak. The Lyrid Another one is renowned for its peculiar surges. The Geminid is also famous for its likable appearance.
Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia was one of the most loved holidays in ancient Rome. A cleansing and fertility ceremony took place during February in the middle. The priests offered animal sacrifices to an altar in front of the Lapis Niiger. The hearth was filled with blood of the animal. It was believed that it would benefit grains by ensuring their fertility and securing the plants from harm.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was held to honor of Ceres, the harvest goddess. Since 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations have been recorded.
Other popular Roman celebrations include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These celebrations were initially held to honor Mars the god of war.
Roman workweeks lasted eight days. There were two portions to each day: morning and the afternoon. The nundin was eight days long, and the remaining 29 days were called the rest of the days.
