March Calendar Icon – There are a variety of holiday celebrations that take place in February. Presidents Day, Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day and meteor showers are a few of these. Many ancient Roman celebrations also take place on various dates.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day (February 14th) is a holiday to celebrate love and passion. It is celebrated every year. It is believed to date to the Middle Ages, when love was more prevalent than courtly and sacramental.
It was a day to celebrate love between romantic partners in the 14th century. It was customary to give Valentine’s Day flowers, cards and other gifts to one another.
In the 19th century’s early years commercial cards became easily available. The popularity of postcards printed in bulk was also increasing. These themed displays were put up in stores.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by gifting your loved ones a gift of candy or chocolate, along with flowers or a card. You may also choose to gift them jewelry.

Groundhog Day is celebrated annually on February 2. Although it is also well-liked in Canada, Thanksgiving is an American holiday.
The celebration originated from superstition from Pennsylvanians as well as Dutch people. The practice of forecasting the weather was introduced in America through German immigrants. Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog native to Pennsylvania provides meteorological predictions for the rest of the winter.
This custom was born out of the discovery of scientists by discovering that mice hibernate in winter. The idea was to predict the coming six weeks of the season using observations about the way that animals reacted.
Groundhogs belong to of the Sciuridae Family of small, hairy mammals. In the winter months, their principal objective is to hibernate. In the early morning hours of Groundhog Day, they are often seen looking out from their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents’ Daylight is regarded as an American holiday that falls on the third Monday of February. The holiday honors the past American presidents. Presidents’ Day is traditionally a day to honor Lincoln and Washington.
It’s a federal holiday that is not observed by all states even though it is one. Some states recognize both presidents, whereas others only recognize one president. However, Presidents’ Day is widely regarded as an opportunity to recognize all U.S. presidentials, particularly Lincoln.
There is a long and complicated story of Presidents Day. The Washington’s Birthday was the first name of the holiday. Today, Presidents’ day is the official name.
Washington’s birthday is an incredibly well-known and unofficial holiday, also known as Washington’s Day. It was declared a federal holiday by Congress in the latter 1870s. This led to Congress adopted the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
Meteor showers
Each year each year, the Earth is orbiting around the sun. This triggers a rush of tiny meteors which are released into space. In the sky, they are all over the sky. Some showers seem more impressive than other. The best time for watching.
One of the largest and most spectacular meteor showers that occurs throughout the year is the Perseids. It is probable that Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle is responsible. It’s only visible in the Northern Hemisphere. However, because the Southern Hemisphere has the highest fireball rates, it’s worth looking from there.
There are four meteor showers that dominate the sky every year. One of them is Quadrantid. Its short , but strong peak is the one that is the most well-known. The other is the Lyrid which is famous for its unusual surges. The Geminid is also renowned for its attractive appearance.
Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia is one of the most celebrated holidays in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was held in mid February. During this rite the priests offered sacrifices of animals on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. Blood from the animal was poured in the hearth. It was believed to be beneficial to the fertility of the fields of grain.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was dedicated to Ceres. Ludi Ceriales celebrations date back to 202 BC.
Other popular Roman celebrations include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These celebrations were originally held in honor of Mars the god of war.
Roman workweeks were eight days long. Each day had two sections: morning and afternoon. Nundin was a collection of eight days. The remaining 29 days comprised the rest of the calendar year.
