The Sciuridae family of small hairy mammals also includes groundhogs. They hibernate in winter. On Groundhog Day is when they can be visible peeking out of burrows.

The Lupercalia was a Roman holiday that was loved by many. A fertility and cleansing ceremony was observed in February. Priests offered animal sacrifices close to the altar of the Lapis Negiger during the ceremony. The blood of the animal was poured into the hearth. The belief was that this would benefit crop by increasing fertility and protecting the crops from damage.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration in honor of Ceres, the harvest goddess. Since 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations were recorded.
Vestalia, Saturnalia, and Neptunalia were a few other well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally held to honor Mars, a god of war.
Roman workweeks were 8 days long. There were two sections of each day, the morning part and the afternoon. A nundin was a collection of 8 days. The remaining 29 days comprised the remainder of the calendar year.
